It seems that there is a national days for everything ranging from various beers to s’mores and even an national day to talk like a pirate. Today, is National Popcorn Day so how will you celebrate?
I am celebrating by partaking in the tastiest popcorn in Central Texas from Cornucopia. This WAS a little hidden gem I discovered almost two years ago while running through a drive thru to grab lunch one day. Owners Nadia and Amy’s little labor of love started just three short years ago and has exploded into an iconic pit stop for business owners, students and even out of towners to pick up a treat regardless of the occasion. When you walk through the doors you’ll see evidence the owners and their employees eat, breath and sleep popcorn. Cornucopia, Austin’s best popcorn shop in my opinion, is tucked behind Veggie Heaven on The Drag (or Guadalupe if you are unfamiliar with Austin weird names for their streets) just north of W MLK Blvd – the exact address is 1914 Guadalupe. There you’ll find unique flavors such as dill pickle, loaded baked potato, pesto, madras curry, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon roll and birthday cake (and yes it tastes just like a birthday cake in just one bite) are just a few of their tasty concoctions. and happen to be most of my favorites. They have roughly thirty flavors available (savory, sweet and chocolate), but only a dozen or so on rotation at one time. If you don’t see your favorite flavor available, place an order and they’ll whip it up.
Today, to celebrate National Popcorn Day they’ve whipped up a batch of new flavors. Swing by their location for a free kids bag and taste one of their newest flavors:
- Blueberry Morning: a fantastic concoction of blueberry white chocolate drizzle on kettle corn with granola and dried blueberries.
- Cheesy Caramel: it’s just what is sounds like… cheese and caramel popcorn mixed together
- Java Chip: if you enjoy a cup of mocha you’ll love this bittersweet coffee flavored corn made with real coffee, dark chocolate and chocolate chips
- Champagne Pop: a unique flavor of champagne, a thin white later of white chocolate and strawberry pop rocks.
- Orange Cranberry Spice: orange candied corn flavored with nutmeg and other spices topped with dried cranberries. Disclaimer: this is addictive I know from experience.
